This is an ongoing personal project: I made these for myself after a fruitless search for a good door stop. The form is inspired by slices of pie and kettlebells. They are all made from polyurethane rubber poured into a silicone mould and pigmented.
You can see them at several businesses across Toronto, including Sam James Coffee Shop of Harbord. Please contact me for pricing.
Project running from January to April 2017 for the Furniture 2 studio class at OCAD U. The goal being to create a product for Umbra's current line and bring it to production. The ideation was fixated on the form of the wave and how the curvature could translate into lightweight, inexpensive flat-packing furniture
The challenge was to make a functional, flat packing product out of scrap materials from OCAD's studios. I used neglected acrylic offcuts from the Rapid Protoyping Centre's laser cutting bed and re cast them in acrylic to form building blocks that could be slotted into stacking CNC'd ply frames.
The idea that a piece of furniture can be left in an unfinished state while at the same time be considered resolved. Half of the piece is built as a wood structure where the parts have been assembled to press into each other in the most rudimentary way, cradling each other like in dry-fit before the glue up, while the other half is an interpretation of the scaffolding that would be brought in to support it. The table top is not fixed and left to slide because it hasn't yet decided where it wants to end up.
A mobile solution to facilitate design thinking an innovation at Baycrest Research Hospital. This project was created in collaboration between OCAD University and the Canadian Centre for Aging & Brain Health Innovation and exhibited during the 2017 Toronto Design Offsite Festival.
The users of the cart were intended to be the CC-ABHI Innovation Team designers, utilizing the cart for design thinking workshops to a variety of locations to the locations to gain insights from clinicians, patients, subject matter experts and staff.
